Our FIRST regatta in April is Covered Bridge Regatta (the biggest race in our area) on April 18-19, on Dexter Lake, in Eugene, OR. We will do our best to provide many races to all rowers, including the newest and youngest. Please note that, athletes and parents are responsible for their own transportation to and from the venue and for making their own lodging arrangements. There will be many clubs participating in this regatta. Hundreds of athletes from Washington, Oregon and California will be in attendance. Food: A dining fee will be assessed to cover food for each rower. There will be an extensive sign-up sheet for bringing cooked dishes or cooking on location to cover food for the rowers and coaches. Since the club has grown significantly, all food from the sign-up sheet will be for rowers and coaches primarily. Only if there is leftover food after rowers/coaches are fed, it will be made available for parents and guests. Therefore, parents/guests will be encouraged to pack a picnic breakfast/lunch and bring their own food for this regatta.
Directions to Dexter Lake
From I-5, take Hwy. 58 (exit 188A) east, 13 miles to Dexter Lake.
Turn left at the white covered bridge, to Lowell.
Turn left at Boundary Rd. (becomes Pengra Rd.), then travel 0.8 miles to Lowell State Park
Coaches' and Coxswains' Meeting will be held Saturday morning, promptly at 6:15 AM under the picnic shelter near the parking lot.
Parking
All vehicles must park in the town of Lowell, which is a 10-15 minute walk from the park. A free shuttle bus will run between the park and town.
There will be many clubs participating in this regatta. Hundreds of athletes from Washington, Oregon and California will be in attendance. In order for races to run smoothly, every single boat has to launch as fast as possible so that other boats can follow in timed sequence. Therefore, athletes who are not competing in a particular race are expected to assist their teammates, who are racing, to get in their boats as quickly as possible. This includes help carrying the boats, oars and shoes; helping launch; cheering; and providing general team support!
We will be launching in the water (about knee-high water), so athletes should prepare and bring extra socks in their boats during their races. In general, all athletes should remember to pack extra socks, shoes, and warm clothes in their luggage. For those children who have asthma, diabetes, allergies, etc., be sure to bring all necessary medication.
We hope everything goes smoothly, we have a lot of fun, and we make new experiences.
