Our first regatta this season in Elk Lake Spring Regatta (ELSR), in British Columbia, Canada on March, 7-8. Founded in 1973, the Elk Lake Spring Regatta brings together the Pacific Northwest to race on the beautiful Elk Lake in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The UVIC boathouse is located at 5100 Patricia Bay Hwy, Victoria, BC V8Y 1T1, Canada. The Regatta is hosted by the athletes of the University of Victoria. This year, ELSR is by INVITATION ONLY. The coaches will select the rowers and will send an invitation for participation in this prestigious regatta based on the seats available in each boat entered to race. Please note that, athletes and parents are responsible for their own transportation to and from the venue and for making their own lodging arrangements. A small fee will be collected, and some snacks will be purchased on location for use on race days. However, no cooking or other food will be provided so the parents will be responsible for feeding their rowers breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
The travel time from Portland to Port Angeles is about 5 hours. The ferry we are using is the Black Ball ferry. You need to make round trip reservations for your car and passengers. Make sure that you arrive 1 hour prior to departure. On the way back you need to be parked in line 90 min in advance because of customs delays. The ferry ride is about 90 min long.
Everyone is responsible for their sleep and food arrangements. Please DON'T forget your PASSPORTS!
The coaches with the trailer are traveling to Victoria on Friday, March 6. They are catching the 2:00pm ferry coming back on Monday, March 9th with the 10:30am ferry. As soon as we arrive in Canada, we’ll go straight to Elk Lake to prepare the boats for racing. We want all rowers to be there (Elk Lake team rest area) around 4:30 pm. Please note, parking is available on site at Eagle Beach, as well as at Jennings Lane (5 minute walk) and Hamsterly Beach (1 km walk along a trail.
The Regatta starts on Saturday morning at 8:00am with time trails and heats. The amount of entries entered will determine which events will end up with heats and time trials. This year schedule is not final yet, but according to the preliminary schedule the regatta will end on Sunday at 3:00pm. We have arranged all rowers to participate at at least 2 events. If their events have heats, the amount of racing will double. The final schedule will be published and finalized 3-4 days prior to competition.
On Sunday, the last ferry is at 4pm, but because we need to prepare the boats and the equipment for traveling, we will not be able to leave Victoria on time to catch the last ferry. We strongly recommend everyone to leave with the 10:30am ferry on Monday morning.
