What is ORU?
Oregon Rowing Unlimited is a full-community rowing center, providing opportunities for crews and scullers of all abilities and ages. Founded in 1988 and located at the south end of Oaks Park, our faclity is home to both Masters and Juniors programs as well as those of Lewis & Clark College, Willamette Rowing and private individual athletes.
Our boathouse provides basic storage and training equipment for our crews including ergometers and a weight room for off-season practices. Situated on the Willamette River, our home water offers near year-round availability and easy accessibility from the boathouse. The Willamette is by far one of the most rowable urban waterways, featuring over 25 km (15 miles) of navagable water. It offers vistas of the natural and protected riparian zones as well as that of Portland's city landscape.
We run two separate, yet integrated programs; the Masters Program meets three times a week in the mornings at 5:45am, the Juniors Program meets five days a week in the afternoons at 4pm. Both programs are open to any level from novice to medalist.
In addition, ORU hosts the LO/OP Regatta of Champions every fall. Started in our founding year, it is one of the older races in the region as well as one of the longest, covering over 7 km (4.5 miles) You can find more information at Portlandloop.org.
