Getting Started at ORU
|
How Do I get started rowing at ORU? It all depends on who you are, and the time of the year.
MastersAdults aged 18 and over - can start rowing with us any time of year. Mostly, you can begin by simply showing up. Generally the Masters meet 5:45am M-W-F at the ORU Boathouse, but there are weekend hours as well. To get more information, contact Frank Zagunis .(click on the link)
JuniorsOpen to High School and select Middle School students aged 12-18, the Juniors program runs M-F 4pm-6pm and is broken up into four seasons; Spring Season - March thru June - Sprints - one of the main rowing seasons, ending in the Regional Championships Summer Camp - June thru August - Ideally the best time for new rowers to get introduced to the sport. Focuses on developing new skills and broadening old ones in a fun atmosphere. Fall Season - Head Race season, featuring longer races and culminating in our hosted race, The LO/OP - a 7k race. Winter Training - land based circuit and cardio training in our Boathouse Gym. Spring and Fall seasons kick off with a "Rookie Week" for new rowers to learn the fundamentals, helping them integrate into the program. Summer Camp and Winter training is more flexible, and new rowers can begin anytime. All Juniors are encouraged to sign up on our website HERE and complete the forms at the bottom of this page and bring them with them on their first day.
