Fall Racing Season '10
I cant believe that we have been through 3 weeks of Fall Rowing already. Fortunately, Mother Nature has been nice to us, and this week actually had some glorious weather. Lets see how long this lasts.
Starting next week the advanced and intermediate rowers will get back into "race mode" so that will be in the right mindset for the 4+ races in this season's schedule. Watching you all these past few weeks, I believe that you are ready to switch from "rowing" to "racing"!
Some reminders- a watch is going to be an essential addition to your rowing equipment- Look for a guide on how to use it to determine stroke rate in a future post. Clothing still seems to be an issue- you *must* have non-cotton clothing at practice. Hypothermia is one of the leading causes of death in a marine environment, even more so when the temperature gets to around 50°. I will also put together some recommended rainwear selections as we start to get wetter in practice.
For the Head of the Dog (HOT Dog), The long term weather forecast is going to be favorable with very little rain predicted! We will discuss our race plan on Wednesday - a directions packet will be distributed this week to all participants, and an info sheet will be mailed out to all. I strongly encourage for any of our races that even if you are not rowing, that you come to the race if possible.
Till then, see you out on the water!
